Clinical Family System Supervision Groups

Clinical Family Systems Supervision Groups

Clinical supervision groups at the Family Systems Institute aim to integrate family systems theory in clinical practice, with a particular focus on the therapist’s own work on differentiation of self in practice. FSI Supervisors are accredited with the Australian Association of Family Therapy (AAFT) and from either social work or psychology disciplines. Clinical supervision groups are run online, and, with the exception of the advanced group, require no prior training in Bowen Family Systems Theory.

Choose from groups that form part of the FSI’s family systems training programs:

  • Family Systems in Clinical Practice Supervision Group
  • Advanced Family Systems Clinical Supervision Group

Family Systems in Clinical Practice Supervision Group

– 5 x 2-hour online sessions
– $650+GST
*Program requirement for the Advanced Certificate in Couple and Family Systems Therapy*

This group is ideal for those interested in learning about family systems theory in application to clinical cases. It helps participants to integrate new knowledge about Bowen Theory in an environment of collaborative learning and reflection. Drawing on their thinking about family systems from the guided reading material provided, participants are asked to formulate hypotheses and present their thinking about clinical cases using family systems theory’s concepts. A key aspect of the clinical supervision program is clinicians increasingly reflecting on the self of the therapist, noticing their triggers and sensitivities to clients and where they are vulnerable to losing objectivity (taking sides).

Conditions of registration for this group:
– Currently working in a clinical / therapeutic context
– Commitment to all sessions with good access to internet for online participation
– Participants will get the most out of this group if they have some prior engagement with Bowen Theory – Join an FSI Introduction to Bowen Theory group or read more about the concepts here.

Advanced Family Systems Clinical Supervision Group

– 5 x 2.5-hour online sessions
– $780+GST
*Program requirement for the Advanced Certificate in Couple and Family Systems Therapy*

This group helps participants integrate their thinking about family systems theory with application to cases through live supervision with participants presenting audio / video examples of their clinical sessions for reflection and discussion. Live supervision provides the opportunity to further grow in awareness of self as a therapist, and to reflect on the application of theory in practice. Pre-reading for each session continues to provide a strong theoretical foundation for this supervision group.

Conditions of registration for this group:
– Completion of Family Systems in Clinical Practice Supervision Group (see above)
– Currently working in a clinical / therapeutic context
– Commitment to all sessions with good access to internet for online participation
– Commitment to bring live (audio/video) recordings of sessions for supervision purposes.
