Family of Origin Coaching and Research Group

Group objective:

The focus of this group will be on researching your own family emotional system in order to better understand your functional role, triangle position and the potential triggers of chronic anxiety. Participation in this group can stand alone or it may be helpful precursor to some individual family of origin coaching. It is not the purpose of the group to re-enter the family system or to redefine self. The reason for this is directed by the theory that suggests any change efforts are more helpfully planned and directed following the acquisition of a sound knowledge of the emotional system. It may well be possible for us to consider efforts to redefine self down the track if the group remains consistent and wishes to continue into the next year. However, this would need to be further discussed and considered at a later stage, following the experience of the group.

Group size and times:

We will meet as a closed group of 4 participants (5 including trainer). Participants are required to make a commitment to 8 sessions spread over a 9-12 month period.

Cost:

Please refer to our schedule of fees.

Group Format:

At the first session the trainer will present a brief overview of their family system and functional position and link it with theory, as an example of the kinds of information and thinking required to research a family emotional system. Additionally, at the first meeting we will discuss the ethics and expectations of working together, clarify any issues regarding working together in this way and allocate individual presentation times.

At subsequent meetings participants will have an opportunity present their ‘research’, observations and reflections and to share their thinking as to how these observations relate to theory and offer opportunities for learning. Each participant will receive feedback and reflections from the trainer, to assist with further efforts. Participants will also have the opportunity of learning from hearing about other participants observations and thinking. Guidelines for how to do this will be provided and discussed at the first session. Reading material will be provided for additional support and guidance.

We also offer Individual Coaching.
