On July 24th 2007 The Family Systems Institute presented a unique seminar -
Social Dimensions of Healthy Organisations
Exploring the interplay of work, the family and social emotional environments
Michael Kerr MD, the Director of the Bowen Centre for the study of the
Family in Washington DC, drew from his decades of working as a
psychiatrist and consultant in family systems theory to assist managers,
consultants, clergy, educators and mental health professionals in their
efforts to contribute to healthy workplaces and communities.
In an era when wellness (integrating social dimensions of health) has
become a hot topic for workplaces, drawing lessons from the family
provides a unique vantage point for considering the process behind
healthy functioning in organisations.
This presentation detailed the
interplay between family, work, and social systems and explored the
following topics:

How does thinking systems go beyond individual notions of health/wellness?

How is it useful to see the interplay between family, work and social systems?

What is the process that explains how family relationships impact the workplace?

How do relationship triangles impact organisational wellness?

How can one recognize when triangles and chronic anxiety impact organisational dynamics?

What are the key systems variables that determine a "happy ship" of work colleagues?

How do family patterns extend to the societal level and what are the implications?

How can knowledge of processes of triangles and anxiety that escape from families into other systems be used to effect constructive change in organisations?
