Conference Report

How to Help Without Losing Your Self
The FSI's 2005 Conference (Saturday 28th May)
A relaxed one day conference, where therapists share their personal efforts to differentiate themselves in work and life.
When:Saturday 28th May 9:30am - 4:00pm
Where:Mosman Art Gallery & Community Centre. Cnr Short & Myahgah Rd, Mosman.
Each therapist's presentation will focus on dilemmas faced by them in keeping their own self awareness, when under pressure to take on responsibility to fix others problems.
Presentations will include:
*     over responsibility in the context of our family of origin,
*     dealing with our anxiety in seemingly impossible couple cases,
*     assisting families facing death while staying mindful of our own grief and loss issues, and
*     the pressure to be a workplace peace maker.

A panel of therapists, who have undertaken family of origin coaching, will discuss the dilemmas they faced in changing ways of relating to members of the families they grew up in.
The FSI's annual conference aims to reflect the example set by Dr Murray Bowen at a national conference in 1966, when he set aside a formal didactic presentation and replaced it with a description of his efforts to define himself in his family of origin.
Our guest presenter via video and conferencing will be Dr Elliott Rosen, the Director of the Family Institute of Westchester, New York.
Elliott is renowned as a teacher of Family Systems Therapy with a particular expertise in issues of grief and loss in families.
This conference is presented by The Family Systems Institute which has been set up to provide professionals in the mental health field with the opportunity to expand their understanding of Family Systems Theory as developed by Murray Bowen. The FSI offers a certificate program, workshops, supervision groups, live supervision and family of origin coaching.
