Faculty - Jo Wright
Jo Wright is a registered Psychologist and has been working
in the field of couple and family therapy since completing her initial
training with Marriage Guidance NSW. She is highly
regarded for her expertise in couple therapy. Jo worked as
a counsellor, supervisor and trainer for Relationships Australia
NSW for over 8 years and was manager of Unifam's Sydney
regional office for 5 years following this.
In 1995 Jo was a founding member
of the staff of The Australian Institute for Relationships Studies and
went on to be employed at University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) to customise
and deliver training
programs in adult education for organisations involved in the teaching of psychotherapy. This
enabled her to develop her interest and skills in adult learning approaches. Jo has
subsequently
developed a reputation as an articulate communicator who values collaboration and creativity
in training.
Jo was first drawn to the ideas of Murray Bowen during initial training in family
therapy. Her interest
was extended by the completion of a major project on the contribution of Bowen to the development of
family therapy during post graduate studies in Psychology at University of Western Sydney (UWS).
Ideas from Bowen's Family Systems
Theory have underpinned both her work with clients and the supervision of clinical staff for many
years.
Having undertaken her own family of origin coaching, Jo
continues to apply these principles to her
relationships with extended family as a complement to her professional work.
Jo's career has given
her the unique combination of solid experience as a clinician, an educator and a manager,
bringing a depth
of expertise to her training and supervision.
